Accounts Payable clerk

We are currently seeking a bilingual, experienced Accounts Payable candidate that is committed with a “can do” attitude to join our team located in downtown Montreal. Our company is recognized as developing home hardware and a variety of other consumer goods. This position reports and provides support to the Controller. You are hands-on and are required to perform daily A/P functions, such as, verifying invoices, approving and posting batches, preparing checks, analyses as required and knowledge of GST regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform the day to day processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure that the books are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.

Main Tasks:

  • Receive, verify, GL code and reconcile invoices (i.e. factory, duty and general business expenses)

  • Verify and process employee expense reports

  • Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures

  • Prepare batches of invoices for data entry

  • Prepare payments such as checks, wire payments, and online bill of payments and record in system

  • Reconcile vendor statements

  • Prepare vendor cheques for mailing

  • Maintain listing of accounts payables

  • Maintain updated vendor files

  • Verify and process credit card statements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of accounts payable, and maintaining general ledgers and procedures

  • Must have prior experience in wholesale distribution and inventory

  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Bookkeeping skills

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Decision making skills

  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

  • Very effective organizational skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Computer skills including the ability to operate computerized accounting, Excel at a highly proficient level (ACCPAC an asset)

  • Time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure

  • 3 years previous experience in accounting

  • Thrives under pressure
